Associate Underwriter, US Workers’ Compensation and US Automobile

Associate Underwriter, US Workers’ Compensation and US Automobile Department: Underwriting, Ontario and Atlantic Region Location: Toronto Reports To: Manager, Ontario and Atlantic Region Position Summary: We’re looking for an Associate Underwriter to join our growing team.

This individual will work closely with senior team members to learn how to profitably manage a book of US Workers’ Compensation and US Automobile business within the Ontario and Atlantic Region.

The successful incumbent will take on increasing responsibility for underwriting new and renewal business as experience is gained.

Duties and Responsibilities: Follow Liberty’s Guidelines for Inclusion and build on personal DE&I knowledge and skill sets.

Complete preliminary underwriting tasks including exposure and loss analysis, rating and setting of policy terms and conditions through proficient use of underwriting guidelines, tools, systems, and coverage forms.

Apply knowledge gained to appropriately determine a recommended course of action.

Work with senior team members to quote, negotiate and bind coverage.

Complete post-bind underwriting tasks including file documentation, requesting policy issuance, ordering of inspections and follow-ups for any outstanding information.

Service and handle any mid-term changes.

Actively engage in group discussions to drive process improvements.

Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload and provide superior customer service to our brokers and clients.

Collaborate with other Liberty business units to understand key customer relationships and support multi-line account solutions.

Maintain proper file documentation within required timelines.

Continuous learning and development through relevant seminars and courses and learning from existing Liberty expertise.

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications: Post-secondary education, relevant insurance designations/education or related work experience is considered an asset.

Customer service focused with an ability to handle a high volume of business and make sound decisions under tight timelines.

Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills.

Able to respectfully give and receive positive and constructive feedback.

Must exhibit action-oriented behavioural traits and dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.

Superior relationship management, negotiation, organizational and time management skills.

Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
