Position Summary: Functioning as part of a coordinated service delivery team, the Outreach Worker works proactively with new and existing clients, offering a range of support and recovery services, within an existing service plan and on an as-needed basis.

The Outreach Worker is a relationship-builder and advocate and provides service in a non-judgmental and culturally appropriate manner, helping clients to build new skills and achieve their goals.

Sage House is a non-judgmental space for street involved sex workers.

We recognize that our participants come to us with a variety of complex needs and gifts, therefore we respond with cultural safety, an open door and an emphasis on human rights using a strength based approach.

We never lose sight of our participant’s needs and voices and therefore we inclusively advocate with them to support their lives direction.

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Outreach Worker will offer early intervention for women involved in the sex trade through empathic first response street level engagement through outreach services.

The worker will also provide referrals and transitions to other services, continue to build/consolidate partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders, and provide preventative activities such as education in the community.

The worker will also be expected to staff drop in, and attend all program and departmental staff meetings and relevant Mount Carmel Clinic committees.

In addition, the incumbent will be required to perform household duties on a rotating or as needed basis.

This includes but is not limited to laundry services, food preparation, and cleaning.

Qualifications Education Post-secondary education in health or social sciences Must have a Valid Drivers’ License and access to a reliable vehicle Service Delivery Skills, Expertise and Experience Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in community, preferably with program target population Experience providing outreach with hard to reach populations Critical Skills Proven knowledge and ability in relationship-building, critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills Focus on Results Demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomes Alignment with Organizational Values Commitment to the principles that guide Mount Carmel Clinic, as reflected in the history, vision, mission and values Indigenous Understanding Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and families Interdisciplinary Team, Collaboration Proven ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity and cultural awareness MCC Philosophies Strong knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, harm reduction, trauma-informed and community development principles in all aspects of the work Communication Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of computer systems Assets : Post-Secondary Education in a Social Services field All positions are subject to Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks.
