Manufacturing Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted August 9, 2022.

A little bit about the role: ORBCOMM has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer within our industrial IoT device design Team.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development, prototyping and production of industrial IoT products through innovative and practical approaches and leverage lessons learned from production problem solving for continuous quality improvement.

This important role includes responsibilities in new product introduction (NPI), design engineering support, and component engineering support.

New Product Introduction Coordination: QTA (Quick Turn Assembly) NPI planning with PCB fabricators and contract manufacturing partners NPI assembly support Main Point of Contact with local Contract Manufacturer Compile documentation packages for quotation Establish and prioritize clear-to-build readiness with recurring reviews Procurement Support – quotations, PR generation (JD Edwards), order tracking and prototype inventory status Assisted engineering teams with Agile PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) entries, new item creation and documentation support necessary for demand planning Design Engineering Support: Assembly documentation creation/updates using Altium Designer, AutoCAD and SolidWorks BOM entry using Agile PLM system Documentation preparation for Agile PLM Engineering/Manufacturing changes Agile change traffic support Manufacturing supply chain support Component Engineering Support: Agile new item creation Identify and rationalize duplicate electrical components using Agile PLM Validate the existing manufacturer’s part numbers against the part descriptions Assist with the approval of alternate components or provide alternate sourcing Verify RoHS/REACH status of electrical and custom parts Manage change activity required to address above using Agile PLM Source applicable second-sources for components Required Skills/Experience: A degree or diploma in a technical discipline (Preferably Electrical Engineering) or equivalent education and 4 years of experience in the field Experience working directly with electronics manufacturers Familiarity with change management/item creation using PLM systems, preferably Agile PLM Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Highly organized with a good attention to detail and strong time management skills Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Electrical/Mechanical CAD experience would be considered an asset ORBCOMM is a pioneer in IoT technology, empowering customers with insight to make data-driven decisions that help them optimize their operations, maximize profitability and build a more sustainable future.
