Lock Search Group is pleased to present an exciting opportunity to join a well-capitalized fast growing technology venture, that is poised to disrupt the energy storage industry.

Our client is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing processes and methods for storage cells and the various parts and components in the cell.

The ideal candidate will reside in Toronto, Ontario .

Our client is on an incredible trajectory, which is illustrated by many significant funding and award milestones that recognize its unique technology and strong business plan, including a recently closed Series A financing and various grants received through Breakthrough Energy Solutions Canada, Sustainable Technology Development Canada and California Energy Commission.

Overview of the position: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing their manufacturing process capability.

This involves training the staff, designing the factory layout, and assisting in developing the production line.

The person will work closely with the design department to ensure that the product is designed for manufacturability.

With the proceeds of Series A financing, they are seeking to move into a new location to modernize and expand their space.

The new factory will have investments in equipment and staff and the new Manufacturing engineer will be intimately involved in the planning of the factory layout and improving the production capacity.

The successful candidate is an experienced manufacturing engineer and an expert in lean manufacturing and is a training resource for the other staff in the department so that the team collectively outputs high quality work on a timely basis.

The person with the support of the production team is accountable for all material flow through the plant, plant layout and equipment selection, plant hygiene and safety and documenting the assembly procedures, “as build” serial production and quality records.

The person is responsible to feed-back recommendations for engineering changes to the design department.

The manufacturing engineer will be responsible for the development of the production process using DFM strategies, the creation of tooling jigs and fixtures as well as the assembly and commissioning of new assembly lines and training of the production team as the company grows.

The person is also responsible for developing practical solutions to mechanical and engineering problems that may arise during technology and product development in a timely manner.

They will be involved at all design review stages, by reviewing designs during development to ensure suitability & ease for manufacture, assembly, test, and supportability in the field, as well as attending relevant Design Review meetings.

In addition, the Manufacturing engineer is expected to play dynamic roles in participating or leading specific projects or supervising assembly personnel as well as engaging manufacturing partners to make or source parts or components depending on the needs of the company.

What you will be doing: Creation of tooling jigs and fixtures as well as the assembly and commissioning of new assembly lines To continuously drive improvements, ensuring that equipment is manufactured cost effectively to the required quality standard and to the project timelines.

Be proactive in continually reviewing and implementing improved processes to ensure the most efficient working methods are employed through the implementation of LEAN tools and techniques.

Develop / maintain Standard Work Instruction for all production processes Explore and develop methods, tools and processes for manufacturing parts and components for different scales of production.

Work with sub-contractors to provide support and ensure timely delivery of contracted goods and services Develop and maintain a Bill of Process for assembly of the product tracking current production costs and identifying process and design improvements that will reduce cost.

Provide technical support for manufacturing plants in machine troubleshooting, fabrication techniques, including cutting, punching, welding and painting.

Establish structure, controls and methods are in place for the introduction of new and existing designs of complex electromechanical assembly of the cell from development to production.

Prepare and maintain production documentation, including “as-built” mechanical drawings, BOMs, time and motion analysis reports, assembly and test procedures and manuals.

DFM: work in parallel with the designers to ensure design is optimized for manufacturing Experience in creating and maintaining PFMEA and Control Plans Creation and maintenance of assembly work instructions and Standard Operation Procedures.

The experience you bring: Required: Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering degree from an accredited university.

Registered P.Eng.

(or ability to qualify) 5-10 years experience in manufacturing operations.

Experience building a new production line for a new technology that will continue to see high change rate over the coming years.

Demonstrated ability to train, production staff (technicians, skilled trades and general labour).

Motivated to strive and succeed in a start-up environment.

Personal accountability and commitment to achieving and exceeding goals and objectives.

An Asset: Advanced degrees Oversight and production planning experience Experience with epoxy potting processes Experience with close fitting mechanical components that must seal to the environment.

Battery, Hydrogen Fuel cells or vacuum applications may be relevant.
