MSW-Social Worker

Grand River Hospital

This is a Contract position in Stratford, ON posted October 4, 2022.

Location: KW Campus

Work Type: Temporary Full Time 

Contract End Date: January 31, 2023

Shift: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hour shifts (Some evening work may be required)


As a member of the Adult In-patient Psychiatry team, the incumbent will provide treatment, support, and service coordination to people diagnosed with a serious mental illness and addictions as well as their families. Contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.



  • Masters of Social Work degree, registration with the OCSW & SSW
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness or disorder along with addictions is required
  • Proven knowledge, skills & experience of working with patients with concurrent disorders i.e. mental illness & addictions.
  • Demonstrated ability for completing comprehensive biopsychosocial mental health assessments including the evaluation of risk, mental status, and level of functioning.
  • Demonstrated ability for conceptualizing and addressing individual and family mental health concerns from a systems perspective.
  • Advanced clinical practice working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness using short-term interventions Proven ability for developing and implementing integrated treatment plans in collaboration with other involved service providers within GRH and in the community
  • Demonstrated knowledge and comfort with multidisciplinary team processes
    Proven ability for utilizing best practices in meeting the needs of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Working knowledge of eligibility requirements for municipal and provincial employment and income supports and how to access such services
  • Knowledge of formal and informal community services and resources
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and relevant health care legislation
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good attendance record
  • Experience with ongoing group therapy i.e. CBT
