The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities.

The Maples target population consists of youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and/or behavioural and/or emotional difficulties, ages 12 to 17; as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or Unfit to Stand Trial under the Criminal Code of Canada & Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

On-site programs provide a period of clinical evaluation, stabilization, treatment intervention and follow-up in a structured setting; as well as support for families/caregivers and the development of a comprehensive plan of care.

Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and childcare counsellors.

Community programs are similarly configured, but delivered within the home community.

Constellation of services offered include: medical/psychiatric evaluation; multi-disciplinary assessment and plans of care; family therapy, education and support; educational opportunities for youth through the Burnaby School District; vocational, recreational and social interactive experiences; on-going outreach and respite services; on-going program evaluation; participation in research & teaching.

Under the general direction and supervision of the Coordinator of Social Work, the position is responsible for: Coordination and provision of a full range of specialized, social work services to adolescents and caregivers referred to the maples by community professionals for assessment and development of a community care plan or treatment.

Coordination of the intake and discharge process.

Completion of comprehensive psycho-social individual, family and community assessments and participation in development of an individualized care plan for each client.

Provide individual, family and group counselling and therapy for conduct-disordered and thought
– disordered adolescents and their caregivers.

Liaison with mental health professionals, social service agencies, probation officers, courts, school personnel, hospitals and professionals throughout the province to identify local resources and ensure community ability to respond to the needs of each client as outlined in a care plan.

Provision of educational services to staff, community agencies and students in training for child care, social work, nursing psychology and psychiatry.

Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level, or equivalent.

NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).

Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered.

Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.

Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e.

from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants: With two years or more of clinical experience working in child and youth mental health services, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.

May be required to work with families, children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
