Youth Care Worker

Youth Care Worker (1.0) Beginning August 2021 VISION: A thriving Christian learning community, connected outward and inward, serving together as leaders who model best practices to empower students to have an impact in a changing world.

Langley Christian High School is accepting applications for a High School Youth Worker for the coming fall, 2021.

Under the direction, supervision and evaluation of the Principal or designate, the Youth Care Worker provides assistance to secondary students who display vulnerabilities in social competencies and interpersonal relationships.

The YCW will collaboratively work with staff in developing individual social and behavioural programs to assist students in reaching the goals outlined in the student’s Individual Education Plan, Behaviour Plan and when indicated, the Integrated Case Management Plan.

As an applicant for the role, you will:
• Report to the Director, Inclusive Learning and work under the direction of the school Principal, and ESS Coordinator.

• Work in collaboration with school staff and other agencies to foster and develop the individual student’s potential.

• Encourage and assist students to have learning and coping skills that will enable them to perform more successfully in school and the community.

• Support children and youth to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach
• Maintain liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, students and their families.

• Assist in the development and implementation of specific academic/social interventions with students who present unique and challenging behaviors.

• Provide guidance to students and their families.

• Organize and participates in field trips and other special events.

• Regularly participate in screening and review meetings as required.

• Regularly communicate with parents and community agencies under the direction of the teacher/administrator.

• Participate as a member of a team to provide support to students with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health challenges.

• Participate and contribute to regular staff meetings and professional development.

• Assume additional responsibilities, which are site-specific.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Required to have completed a Child and Youth Care Degree.

• Minimum of 2 years supervised recent and relevant work-related experience with children and youth is required.

• Ability to work cooperatively with family, community and school personnel
• Proven ability working with at-risk school-aged children and youth as well as experience running groups with children and youth.

• Ability to work independently without supervision.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to follow school and community protocols.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• The successful applicant will be assigned to High School at LCS.
